IT'S COMING: Together Again, for the First Time

by Dan Phillips

Today, we snap aside the veil and show you what we've got ù so far. What could we possibly do that's never been done before?

It's the first Pyromaniacs conference! as you pretty much guessed.

Details are still being firmed up, and we'll let you know as matters are finalized, but This Is Where We're At Right Now:

Speakers:
Phil Johnson
Frank Turk
Dan Phillips

...and maybe a surprise guest speaker:

(We're also looking into some music)

Dates:
January 23-24, 2015

Place:
Houston, Texas

Working Theme:
Sufficient Fire
(The sufficiency of Scripture, ablaze)

What difference does it make when you really, truly believe that Scripture is sufficient? It makes all the difference. We'll show you.

A whole lot more should be available within the next month, Lord willing. But we did want to let you know the basics early, so those who want to come can start planning.

This is the first time we've all spoken at the same conference. But you know it isn't the first time we've been together.

Join us! Tell your friends.

...then hurry on out, y'all.

They're playing off the title of "Strange Fire" - a conference on pentacostalism.

And the picture under "surprise guest speaker" is Spurgeon.

Frank's not going to try to perform a resurrection, is he?

DJP said...

I'd say "Strange Fire" played off of us, by way of anticipation. I mean, "PYROmaniacs"? Hel-lo?

Kerry James Allen said...

I sure hope Frank isn't going to try to raise Spurgeon. "Lord, by this time he stinketh." John 11:39

Spurgeon, I mean.

Could have a bonfire where people throw in all of the popular charismatic books by Meyer, Hinn, Copeland, etc. It could be sufficient for roasting hot dogs and sausages (I can't do marshmallows after my gastric bypass).

BOOM. Called it!

Hey, this is in my neighborhood. Cool. Can you invite Richard Gaffin as your guest? :)

FX Turk said...

I'm going to teach the Sunday School hour on this topic:

"Where is my coffee, and why are there no donuts?"

FX Turk said...

I'm hoping there's someone willing to moderate some Q&A time during this conference. Somebody needs to ask Phil why Hitler was so mad at his internet retirement.

DJP said...

We could have brown-shirted "Tone Police" posted on each aisle.

DJP said...

We're really inviting you, Rob, but Gaffin would certainly be welcome. When tickets go on sale, shoot him the URL!

My recommendation for the special guest is one star hater.

Recently I had the pleasure of listening to and meeting Phil at the PCRT conference in Grand Rapids. It would really be fun to see and hear the three of you together.

Whether I would make it or not, I pray that your preparation and conference go well and are beneficial for you and your attendees.

I'm just hoping that the Pyro Twitter Feed is projected on a screen behind each speaker so that the other speakers can keep up a running commentary.

And of course, assuming that is done, I'm counting on Church Curmudgeon to be there and in rare form.

I just checked the forecast for Houston that weekend, and it's saying Earthquake followed by singing of hymns and the conversion of the jailer's household.

Bike Bubba said...

Shouldn't it be "then hurry on out, y'all" or "y'all come down here, ya hear"? :^)

Blessings!

Corrected.

I'll just be happy to have my kids in the front row chewing gum while DJP is preaching.

I. AM. SO. EXCITED. ABOUT. THIS.

Here. In my hometown. That's fantastic. Can't wait, fellers.

DJP said...

Thanks for being the first, Dave!

Should be epic. I'm just sad Don LaFontaine passed away before making the trailer for this thing.

I know that he's on the verge of rock-star status, but y'all might want to consider Pecadillo for your security detail at this event. Considering what happened at Strange Fire when Phil Johnson was speaking...Just sayin.

Merrilee Stevenson said...

Haha! My last comment required me to prove I wasn't a robot by typing the words "webwas shown."

Prophetic or Providential? You tell me.

DJP said...

Oh Terry, that would have been awesome. "In a world..."

Robert said...

I like how Todd Friel has moderated the Q&A panels for Shepherd's Conference and the Strange Fire Conference. Maybe he's free that weekend?

Rachael Starke said...

Awww - the band's getting back together!

I hear Curmudgie is secretly gifted in the music department - does the venue have a Wurlitzer?

Aaron Snell said...

Maybe you could find a Spurgeon impersonator. I mean, they've got to be out there, right?

FX Turk said...

I thought that's what Phil did?

APM said...

It's not a legit event...

...unless Pecadillo live-blogs it.

Since no one else is commenting on it, that picture of the three of you together just cries out for an atoning act. We need a new, manlier picture to emerge from this conference. Something involving an oil rig would be nice.

I'm a newbie here and you all are usually over my head but I am not giving up in understanding all that is taking place in christiandom and honing my discernment muscles. Don't know if I can make it to the conference right now, but sure will make an effort. I'm learning a lot from you all!! Thanks for staying true to The Lord and for sarcastic humor!

"Thanks for staying true to The Lord and for sarcastic humor!"

Well, if that doesn't sum it all up...

I'm liking the Young Frankenstein reference in the this announcement… "Together again, for the first time!"

Weather and the Good Lord permitting, me and the missus are going to try to make it to Houston. 430 miles from Oklahoma is not that far and we'll try to leave the winter weather up here. Dan, is this going to be the first conference you've hosted? If so, congrats.

DJP said...

That's terrific news, Burrito! Love to meet you.

Yes, I've spoken at conferences, but (A) never with Frank and Phil, and (B) never hosted one.

Stephen said...

Did you personally have coffee with Mark Driscoll before inviting him to schedule a men's retreat in the same town on the same day with convenient free time so he can drive over to your conference and pass out books in the parking lot?

Bart Marnitz said...

Frank, you don't have to worry. There will be donuts. There are always donuts in Texas.

Michael Herrmann said...

I and the fetching Mrs. Herrmann are planning to come down from the frozen wastes of South Dakota to enjoy some lovely Houston weather, some tasty Mexican food (recommendations appreciated), and a whole heap o' discernin'. It's about time this happened!

Gilbert said...

Wow. Do you need volunteers to help? I can do sound, video, help with live streaming and can assist with lighting if needed.
Otherwise, here's some random, incredibly stupid and inflammatory thoughts:

1. We had a conference with Creation Ministries and we housed our speaker in homes, rather than hotels. And in the past, we've sheltered those, when we could, who couldn't afford a hotel room.
What do you think about parishoners doing the same?

2. What can we do to reduce the burden on you to have such a fantastic event?

3. If Turk comes in a Captain America costume and his sermon was approved by the Comics Code Authority, then what will you do? ;-)

Unknown said...

That American Girl picture is perfect!

I won't be able to make the flight out, but I look forward to the audio and hope it's a blessing to all involved.

Aaron said...

Gilbert:

We absolutely need volunteers. Please contact me via email and we'll talk.

I just received a word from God today that I should try and attend this conference.
